DEACO Workshops
DEACO Introduction
The DAECO initiative marks a significant stride in the CBC maturity. Central to this project is the creation of an ontology specifically tailored for distributed services in the built environment. DAECO's primary objective is the aggregation and structuring of a AECO knowledge domain, aligning systems of interest integral to this sector. One of the roles of the DAECO ontology is in enhancing the comprehension and management of distributed systems, including the integration of tokenized intelligent edge services, within the design, production, and operations of the built environment. The ontology brings the ability to provide a clear, organized, and logical blueprint of diverse elements and their synergies in a System of Systems (SoS). It stands as an tool for AECO professionals and stakeholders, shedding light on the intricate nature of distributed environments and guiding strategic decision-making for transformative value.
Before the Workshop
To prepare effectively for the DAECO workshop, participants should take several essential steps:
Obtaining a GitHub account as it will be used for accessing project repositories and collaborating with team members;
A WebProtégé account is necessary for working with the ontology development tool;
Understanding the Basic Formal Ontology (BFO) is fundamental, as BFO provides the framework for the ontology development.
Familiarise yourself with BS ISO/IEC 21838‑2:2021 information standards. If you do not have free access to this ISO, not to worried, we will be discussing this during the workshop. You don’t really need to buy it.
Development Methodology
The DAECO methodology begins with the basics and addresses the most accessible, "low hanging fruit" elements first, before tackling more complex aspects.
A key principle is ensuring interoperability and interlinking of all components, which is critical in the distributed nature of AECO systems.
There is extensive information and guidance online on how to use Protégé. A good place to start is ProtegeWiki.
