Projects

Financing and Procurement

The CBC is currently developing opensource enabling modules for smart contracts and financing systems for construction. These generic enabling modules are being written in three widely accepted blockchain ecosystems: R3 Corda, Ethereum Solidity, and Hyperledger Fabric and Quilt.

The CBC’s Academic Leadership is collaborating closely with developers of a number of mainstream blockchain platforms. We are also an academic member of the Linux Foundation Hyperledger Initiative.

Policy and Compliance

The policy, compliance and regulation project are developing industry standards and regulatory framework in collaboration with our industry partners. Areas of interest are IP protection, Automated Payments and Automated Dispute Resolution. The CBC is a think tank in the field of digital technologies in construction and is working to publish white papers and scientific studies.

Distributed BIM

The CBC has started to investigate what DLT means for BIM and IOT. We are converging technologies to forge a ‘responsibility’ chain for the manufacturing and construction sectors. We are exploring how BIM capabilities can be expanded by integrating and inter-operating BIM and Blockchain/DLT technologies.

ABOUT THE CBC PROJECTS

The Construction Blockchain Consortium investigates transferability of solutions, generic enablers, and use case translations of technology application (from aviation to construction). The CBC was established to develop knowledge transfer, arrange commercial and academic presentations, assess and test commercial services and technology, conduct research, and drive policy, regulation and understanding of the consequences of Blockchain and other emerging technologies in the Built Environment. The CBC is led by the UCL Department of Computer Science and The UCL Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment. We also investigate the development of open source tools on behalf of the industry and encourage application developers to build proprietary technology and services to deliver sustainable construction solutions.
